The Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Association of Thailand (AAIAT) was first established as a club of allergists and immunologists in the year 1977 for gathering together as a social group who have the common interests in the field of allergy and immunology in Thailand. Then it was formed to be a society and was registered officially on April 4, 1984, as “The Allergy and Immunology Society of Thailand” (AIST) at that time. Also, we have been publishing the official journal of our society named “Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology’ since then.
In the year 1989, our society together with other national societies in Asia had established the first Asia regional society as “Asian Pacific Federation of Allergology and Immunology Society and had held the first meeting of this federation on October 26-29, 1989 in Bali, Indonesia.
Three years later, in the year 1992, Prof. Montri Tuchinda, the AIST president at that time, had proposed the expansion of the federation to recruit more members from Southeast Asia and South Asia countries and changed the name of the federation to be “Asia Pacific Association of Allergology and Clinical Immunology” (APAACI) for the first time which Prof. Montri Tuchinda was elected as the first president of APAACI and had held the first APAACI Congress on November 22-26, 1992 in Bangkok, Thailand.
AIST also joined with other immunology societies in Asia region to officially first form “Federation of the Immunological Societies of Asia-Oceania” (FIMSA) in the year 1991 with Prof. Dr. Stitaya Sirisinha from Thailand as the founding committee and also the executive committee of FIMSA 1991-1994 term. FIMSA is also under the umbrella of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS). Later in the year 2000, AIST had hosted the second FIMSA Congress in Bangkok on January 23-27, 2000, which Prof. Stitaya Sirisinha from Thailand was elected as the president of FIMSA Councils.
Since then, AIST has been growing to recruit more members including allergists, immunologists, clinical immunologists, other medical members who have an interest in the field of allergy and immunology.
In the year 2010, AIST was changed its name to “The Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Association of Thailand” (AAIAT) to expand the scope of interests including allergy, asthma, and immunology then.
Vision:
The Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Association of Thailand will be the national trusted resource for both the professional and publicity.
Mission:
The Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Association of Thailand will be the National Center for exchanging knowledge, promoting research and providing the standard cares in the field of allergy, asthma, and immunology for people and society
Objectives
1. To support and promote the training for medical professionals in allergy, asthma, and immunology
2. To gather information, analyze and publish the academic information on allergy, asthma, and immunology for medical practitioners, pediatricians, internists, and other health care providers
3. To be the academic resource and reference of allergic diseases, asthma, and immunological diseases, for the public and stakeholders, including campaigning and protecting the patient rights
4. To support and promote basic and clinical research on allergy, asthma, and immunology.
5. To create a network between patients and public organizations.
6. To educate the knowledge in allergy, asthma, and immunology for the public.
AAIAT has a national academic meeting 2 times a year; the annual meeting in the early spring, and the semi-annual meeting in the early fall yearly.
AAIAT has held several international meetings like the following:
World Allergy Congress (WAC) in the year 2007
APAAACI Congress in the year 1992, 2007 (together with WAC), and lately in 2018 (APAACI-APAPARI Joint Congress)
APAPARI Congress in the year 1998, 2001, 2013, and lately in 2018 (APAAACI-APAPARI Joint Congress)
FIMSA Congress in the year 2000 (the 2nd) and lately in the year 2018 (the 7th)

In the year 2008, AAIAT have started “Montri Tuchinda-Stitaya Sirisinha’s Lectureship” as a special award for honoring and recognizing allergist or immunologist who has been working and dedicating in the field of Allergy/Immunology and to deliver the special lecture in the AAIAT Annual Meeting every year, and there have been 14 recipients of this award till 2019.
AAIAT also has many educational activities to promote, educate and disseminate knowledge in the field of allergy, asthma, and immunology for other medical practitioners including Allergy School for Non-Allergist, AAIAT Roadshow in Allergy & Immunology for outreach hospitals, Allergy Practice Meeting, Allergy/Immunology Interhospital Conference, etc.
AAIAT has held many activities to raise public awareness for allergic diseases and primary immunodeficiency diseases including World Allergy Day and Global Day of Immunology since the year 2002 till now, and also help to form the patient organization i.e. Thai Patient Organization of Primary Immunodeficiency (ThaiPOPI) which was first established in the year 2014 then.

For the official journal of AAIAT, “Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology” (APJAI), which was established since the year 1984, and was published as the paper publication before, and then was changed to electronic journal with online submission system till present. APJAI has published 4 times per annum (March, June, September, and December). Four issues constitute one volume. APJAI publishes original research articles of basic science, clinical science, and reviews on various aspects of allergy and immunology. The scopes include mechanism, pathogenesis, host-pathogen interaction, host-environment interaction, allergic diseases, immune-mediated diseases, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, immunotherapy, and vaccine. All papers are published in English and are refereed to international standards. The Asian Pacific Journal of Allergy and Immunology (APJAI) is an online open-access journal with the recent impact factor (2018) 1.747.
