KAAACI was founded in 1972 with fifty-eight dedicated members. KAAACI has since grown into a globally recognized organization. KAAACI founded the West Pacific Allergy Symposium (WPAS) in 1986 and is an important founding member of the Asia Pacific Association of Allergy, Asthma, and Clinical Immunology (APAAACI) with 3 past presidents (Professors You-Young Kim, Sang-il Lee, and Hee-Bom Moon), the secretary general, the board members (Professors Sang-Heon Cho, and Ho Joo Yoon), and the editor-in-chief (Professor Yoon-Seok Chang) from KAAACI. KAAACI hosted APAAACI congress together with WPAS (2002) and APAAACI symposia regularly. KAAACI also founded the East Asia Allergy Symposium (EAAS) together with the Japanese Society of Allergology and the Chinese Society of Allergy. KAAACI is also an important member of the World Allergy Organization (WAO) with the past board member, 2 WAO centers of excellence, and hosting the World Allergy Congress (Seoul, 2015) and sister society symposia regularly. KAAACI also has close collaborations with the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) such as the KAAACI-EAACI leadership meetings and EAACI Speaker program each year. KAAACI has also been collaborating with the Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Disease (GARD), the INTERASMA (with a past president, a board member, and the Asia Pacific Chapter President from KAAACI), and ARIA (allergic rhinitis and its impact on asthma).
The Korean Journal of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology, a scientific quarterly journal, made its debut in 1981, and had steadily influenced the allergy community in Korea. The journal changed its name as Allergy, Asthma and Respiratory Disease (AARD) since 2013 publishing together with the Korean Academy of Pediatric Allergy and Respiratory Disease (KPARD). Since 2009, Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research (AAIR), an official English journal (http://e-aair.org/), has been published by KAAACI together with KPARD. The 2018 impact factor of AAIR is 5.026.
KAAACI is hosting the international congresses regularly. In 2018, KAAACI had an international congress with EAAS, EAACI, SERIN Asia, and APAAACI. This year, KAAACI had an international congress with WPAS, EAACI, and INTERASMA. The total number of attendance is about 1,000. Especially the young investigators all over the Asia presented their scientific works, had nice discussions with top scientists, and also had fun at social events for them during the congress. KAAACI is supporting the young investigators not only from Korea but also from the Asia Pacific region as the young investigators are our future.
